Which type of editing is right for me?

COPYEDITING

Often combined with line editing, copyediting is a highly detailed edit of your work. This type of editing involves corrections, suggestions and comments.

Best for a manuscript that has had some form of developmental editing or beta reader feedback, but has yet to undergo rigorous editing at the sentence and paragraph level.

PROOFREADING

Proofreading is a final check for any errors or inconsistencies. There is no significant textual intervention at this stage beyond tidying things up.

Best for a manuscript that has already undergone some form of editing for errors, clarity and style.

 Frequently asked questions

  • Line editing focuses on style, word choice and sentence or paragraph structure. We combine line editing with our copyediting service, focusing on all aspects of your work at the micro, line-by-line level.

  • We work with speculative fiction of all types, from high fantasy and science fiction to historical fiction and romance, and everything in between.

  • The amount of time required to perform a copyedit varies, depending on the length of the manuscript. We usually quote 2-4 weeks for novel-length manuscripts, but this may change. We can provide a clearer timeframe when we discuss your project.

  • Yes! We can perform a sample edit upon request of up to 1500 words. This service is currently free. We require the manuscript to be sent in full, so that we may select an appropriate area for editing. For micro or short stories, the sample length may vary.

  • No limits! We are happy to work on micro stories of only a few hundred words, all the way up to epic stories of hundreds of thousands of words. Please reach out for a timeframe estimate and quote if you are concerned about the length of your work.

  • Yes! We work with authors around the world. We have experience with US English, UK English and AU English.

  • We usually edit your work in Microsoft Word with Track Changes and Comments. We can also apply edits on Google Docs if preferred. For proofreading, we may conduct checks on a PDF file, ePUB file or other publication-ready format; however, please note that Track Changes may not be a valid function in this case. Please contact us if you are unsure about your file format!
